Half Waif – The Caretaker

This is the first album that I’ve heard from Half Waif and I’m glad to say that I really enjoyed this project! Nandi Rose puts her talent on full display with this record showcasing some gorgeous ballads alongside some synth heavy ambient tracks. This album has a lot of feeling, and that’s all thanks to Nandis expressive vocals. She does a perfect job conveying her emotions on all of these songs.

The best part about this album though are its slow and hazy moments. I found myself coming back to the tracks that featured synths more than anything else. There are definitely parts of this album that feel a bit incomplete and repetitive, and that could have easily been fixed with some more diverse instrumentation (Almost every song suffers from being a piano ballad). After I listened to this album I was left wanting more. I feel like with some time Half Waif could grow to be something much greater but right now she still sounds like she’s finding her footing. Overall this is still a great album and I didn’t feel like it wasted any of my time.
